January Parent Notes

Welcome to 2023! We are entering the second semester of the school year! Five months from now we will be on summer break! It seems like the year is flying by. I can’t wait for the warm weather to come again!

We will have district wide testing this month for K-2 (iReady) and 3-6 (STAR 360). Make sure your child is here daily. Your child’s teacher will contact you with specific test dates.

Did you have an opportunity to watch the classroom performances on the school website? If you haven’t, go to www.woodlawn.cps.edu to view your child’s class.

Reminders:

We will have a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic occurring at Woodlawn ES on Friday, January 13. All CPS students, their families, staff and community members are eligible to attend. The Vaccination Clinic offers primary COVID shots, boosters and flu shots.You can make an appointment with the following link: Appointments preferred. Walk-ins will be registered on-site by clinic staff for immediate, same-day vaccination administration as supplies last. The clinic hours are 10:00am – 1:00pm.

We resumed breakfast in the All Purpose Room at 8a. Breakfast is available until 8:20a. At that time, we stop breakfast to have the Morning Unity Circle. Students arriving after 8:20a will be held in the foyer until the Morning Unity Circle is done. At that time, all students that have not eaten breakfast will be allowed to pick up their breakfast and eat it in the classroom.

There are no before or after school activities scheduled for this week. Check in the office with questions. All activities will resume on Tuesday, January 17.

January 11 & 19 - Parent Meetings - We need your voice for the LSC Meeting (1/11 @ 5p) and the PAC Meeting (1/19 @ 10a).

January 13, 20 & 27 - Fun Fridays - Students following school rules, dressing in uniform, and performing well academically (Honor Roll (All As & Bs) will be celebrated with Fun Fridays. Be sure to assist your child with successfully completing all necessary tasks to participate.

January 13 - Report Cards will be sent home - Your child will be bringing his/her Report Card home. Be sure to check bookbags!

January 14 & 21 - Basketball Games - Come out and join us for our weekly basketball games. The girls and boys team will be competing against other schools in the area. The boys will play Ray Elementary School on January 14 and both the girls and boys will play Shoesmith Elementary School on January 21.

January 16 - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday is observed. - NO SCHOOL - Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 17.

January 19 - Picture Day Makeup - Did your child miss the Fall Picture Day or do you want a retake? Please contact Mama Pettis, in the office to schedule a makeup time.
